Ultrawide charts often calculate this size from a 21:9 ratio, but the panels in 34-inch monitors are 3440 × 1440 pixels, a ratio of 2.39:1. The real screen is slightly wider and shorter than the 21:9 figures suggest.

The width is measured along the screen surface. Some spec sheets give the diagonal as 34.1 in (86.7 cm), which adds about 0.1 in to each figure. Budget 34-inch ultrawides at 2560 × 1080 have the same outline (2.37:1) but only 82 PPI, so text looks noticeably coarser.

Compared with a 27-inch monitor, the stand is about 2 in deeper and the panel up to twice as thick, because the curve pushes the center of the screen back. The overall width is only about 0.6 in more than the screen width: the frame is thin and the curve slightly shortens the straight-line distance across the front.
How the curve affects width and depth
Curvature is quoted as a radius in millimeters: 1900R means the screen is part of a circle with a 1.9 m radius. The smaller the number, the tighter the curve. The table shows what each common radius does to a 34-inch screen that is 797 mm (31.4 in) wide along its surface.

The last column is the point of the curve. On a flat 34-inch screen viewed from 28 in (71 cm), the side edges are 15% farther from your eyes than the center and are seen at a sharper angle, so colors and contrast shift at the sides. A 1800R or 1900R curve, the common choice for office models, cuts the difference to about 9%. The tight 1000R and 800R curves on gaming models bring the edges almost level with the center but look odd for straight lines in spreadsheets and CAD.
Measure the straight-line space available, then add the curve depth to the stand depth. A 1000R 34-inch panel's edges come forward about 3 in, so a monitor that sits 10 in deep at its stand can reach 3 in farther toward you at the sides.
What 16:9 video and games look like on a 34-inch ultrawide
- Standard 16:9 video (YouTube, TV, most streaming series) is shown at 2560 × 1440 in the middle with black bars of 440 pixels on each side. The picture is 23.4 in wide, the same size as on a 27-inch monitor.
- Films in 2.39:1 fill the screen almost exactly, because the panel has the same shape as a cinema scope frame. The same film on a 27-inch 16:9 monitor would be letterboxed to about 9.8 in tall.
- Games that support 3440 × 1440 show more of the scene to the sides. Games locked to 16:9 display with side bars, like video. Rendering 3440 × 1440 takes about a third more graphics power than 2560 × 1440.

- Width: the monitor needs 32 to 33 in. A 40 in (100 cm) desk leaves room for a lamp or speakers; 48 in (120 cm) is comfortable.
- Depth: 27.5 in (70 cm) or more. The stand takes 9.5 to 10.2 in, and a viewing distance of 28 to 32 in (70 to 80 cm) keeps the edges in view without turning the head.
- Height: the screen is only 13.1 in tall, so the usual guidance (top edge at or slightly below eye level) is easy to meet on the stock stand.

What is the aspect ratio of a 34-inch ultrawide?

Is a 34-inch ultrawide bigger than a 27-inch monitor?
It is the same height (13.1 vs 13.2 in) but 7.9 in wider, with 32% more screen area (412 vs 312 sq in) and 34% more pixels across at the same 110 PPI density. It is not bigger in every direction, so it does not feel like a step up from 27 to 32 inches.
How deep is a curved 34-inch monitor without its stand?
