How we size things

TheSize.net is a reference library of 338 size guides: screens and electronics, paper and print formats, furniture and appliances, clothing and shoes, building materials, sports equipment, vehicles and more. Each guide gives the standard sizes first, then the dimensions you need to plan with: usable or interior size, clearance around the item, weight or capacity, and how neighboring sizes compare.

Checked against standards

Where a size is fixed by a standard (ISO 216 for A4, PS 20 for lumber, ISO/IEC 7810 for bank cards, CPSC rules for cribs), we work from that document and name it on the page. Product dimensions come from manufacturers' published spec sheets and are given as ranges when models differ.

Both unit systems, calculated

Every page shows imperial and metric. Conversions use the exact definitions (1 in = 25.4 mm, 1 lb = 0.45359237 kg) and are rounded only at the end, to the precision you would use with a tape measure.

Nominal vs actual, made clear

A 2 × 4 is 1.5 × 3.5 in, a 65-inch TV is about 57 in wide, and a medium shirt depends on the brand. Guides say which number is a name and which is a measurement, so you can plan with the right one.

Figures are reviewed when standards, regulations or product lines change, and each guide shows its last update date. If you find an error, email [email protected] with the page and your source. Read how we research and verify sizes, or use the unit converter and size comparison tool for your own measurements.
