77-Inch TV Dimensions: How Wide and Tall a 77-Inch OLED Is
77 inches is almost exclusively an OLED size, so the numbers that matter are a little different: very thin panels, wide weight differences between models, and mounting details that vary by brand.
A 77-inch TV has a screen 67.1 in wide and 37.8 in tall (170.5 × 95.9 cm). Current 77-inch OLED TVs measure 67.3–67.7 in wide, 38.6–38.7 in tall and 1.0–1.9 in deep without a stand (171–172 × 98 × 2.5–4.8 cm), and weigh 52–83 lb (23.5–37.5 kg).

The 77-inch size exists because of how OLED panels are made. Almost every large OLED TV, including Sony's and Samsung's, uses a panel from the same small number of OLED factories, and those factories cut 77-inch panels rather than 75. LED TVs, which use LCD panels from many more suppliers, settled on 75. So if you are shopping for an OLED, the steps are 65, 77, 83 and 97 inches; if you are shopping for LED, they are 65, 75, 85 and 98.
Overall dimensions of current 77-inch TVs
| Model | W × H × D (in) | W × H × D (cm) | Weight | VESA (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| LG C4 (OLED77C4PUA) | 67.3 × 38.7 × 1.9 | 171.1 × 98.3 × 4.8 | 51.8 lb (23.5 kg) | 300 × 200 |
| LG G4 (OLED77G4WUA) | 67.4 × 38.7 × 1.0 | 171.2 × 98.3 × 2.5 | 82.5 lb (37.4 kg) | 300 × 300 |
| Samsung S90D (QN77S90D) | 67.7 × 38.6 × 1.8 | 172.0 × 98.0 × 4.6 | 71–77 lb (32–35 kg) | 400 × 300 |
| Sony Bravia 8 (K-77XR80) | 67.4 × 38.7 × 1.5 | 171.2 × 98.3 × 3.8 | 71.2 lb (32.3 kg) | 300 × 300 |
Width and height are almost identical across brands, within 0.4 in. Weight is not: the G4 weighs 60% more than the C4 at the same size, mainly because of the heat-sink layer LG adds behind the G-series panel. Samsung's published weight for the S90D differs between its spec sources (71.4 and 76.7 lb), so size a mount for the higher figure.
OLED panels are thin at the top and edges, but the depth listed is the thickest point, where the electronics and speakers sit. A 1.9 in depth on the C4 is measured at that lower bulge; the upper part of the panel is a fraction of an inch.
Wall mounting a 77-inch OLED
Thin, light OLED panels are well suited to wall mounting, but the four models above use three different VESA patterns and one needs its own bracket.
- LG C4, 300 × 200 mm: a rectangular pattern smaller than many "large TV" mounts expect. Check the bracket's minimum spacing, not only its maximum.
- LG G4: ships with LG's flush wall bracket and no table stand. It has 300 × 300 mm holes, but the slim back is designed for that bracket, and mount makers disagree about whether a generic VESA mount sits properly. A table stand is sold separately.
- Samsung S90D, 400 × 300 mm and Sony Bravia 8, 300 × 300 mm: both fit most mounts rated for 70 to 85-inch TVs.
For a seated eye height of 42 in (107 cm) at the center of the screen, the bottom of a 77-inch picture sits about 23 in (59 cm) from the floor and the top about 61 in (155 cm). A bracket rated for 90 lb (41 kg) or more covers every model in the table with margin.
A 1 in thick panel on a flush bracket sits almost against the wall, so there is little room for air or cables behind it. Leave the vents on the back uncovered and keep a few inches clear above the TV, especially in a recess.
Furniture and stand space for a 77-inch TV
On a stand, a 77-inch OLED is about 40 in tall, and the stand footprint sets the depth you need: a central pedestal is shallower than splayed feet. Sony's Bravia 8, on feet, measures 67.4 × 39.8 × 15.9 in with its stand and weighs 75 lb.
- Console width: at least 68 in (173 cm) for models with feet near the ends; 72 to 84 in (183–213 cm) looks balanced.
- Console depth: 16 to 18 in (41–46 cm), which covers the deepest feet with room to spare.
- Console height: 19 to 23 in (48–58 cm) keeps the screen center close to eye level.
The TV stand size guide explains how to pick a height that suits your sofa. If you add a soundbar, a bar between 45 and 55 in long suits a 67 in wide TV; the soundbar dimensions guide lists heights so the bar doesn't block the bottom of a low-slung OLED.
Viewing distance for a 77-inch TV
| Guideline | Feet | Meters |
|---|---|---|
| Closest for 4K (1.5 × screen height) | 4.7 ft | 1.44 m |
| THX 40° field of view | 7.7 ft | 2.34 m |
| SMPTE 30° field of view | 10.4 ft | 3.18 m |
A 77-inch OLED works best for seating 7.5 to 10.5 ft away. OLED's wide viewing angle also helps in broad rooms: people on the ends of a sectional see the same contrast and color as the person in the middle, which isn't true of most LED TVs.
77-inch vs 65, 75 and 83-inch
| Size | Screen W × H (in) | Screen W × H (cm) | Area vs 77 | Width vs 77 |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 65-inch | 56.7 × 31.9 | 143.9 × 80.9 | 29% smaller | 10.5 in narrower |
| 75-inch | 65.4 × 36.8 | 166.0 × 93.4 | 5% smaller | 1.7 in narrower |
| 77-inch | 67.1 × 37.8 | 170.5 × 95.9 | reference | |
| 83-inch | 72.3 × 40.7 | 183.7 × 103.4 | 16% larger | 5.2 in wider |
For OLED buyers, the real choice is usually 65 or 77. The 77 has 40% more picture than a 65 and is 10.5 in wider, which is a large jump for the same viewing distance. The 83 adds another 5.2 in of width. Every size in the range is in the TV size chart.
77-inch TV box size
A 77-inch OLED ships in a carton about 75 to 76 in long, 44.5 in tall and 9 in deep (190–194 × 113 × 23 cm). LG lists the G4's box at 74.6 × 44.5 × 9.0 in; retailers list the C4's at about 76 × 44.5 × 9 in and roughly 82 lb (37 kg) packed, while the heavier G4 ships at about 103 lb (47 kg).
- The box needs about 77 in (196 cm) of flat cargo floor and a 45 in opening if carried upright. In practice that means a pickup, a cargo van, store delivery, or one of the larger SUVs and minivans if its hatch opening is tall enough.
- OLED panels are thin and flex more easily than LED sets. Lift the TV out of its box by the frame or the handles provided, with two people, and never by the top edge of the panel alone.
Frequently asked questions
How wide is a 77-inch TV?
The screen is 67.1 in (170.5 cm) wide. Current models measure 67.3 to 67.7 in (171–172 cm) across the frame, so plan on 68 in plus whatever clearance you want at each side.
How tall is a 77-inch TV?
The screen is 37.8 in (95.9 cm) tall and the TV body is 38.6 to 38.7 in (98 cm) without a stand. On its stand it is about 40 in tall; Sony's Bravia 8, for example, measures 39.8 in (101 cm) with its feet attached.
Is a 77-inch TV much bigger than a 75-inch?
No. A 77 is only 1.7 in wider and 1.0 in taller than a 75, with 5% more screen area. The two sizes usually differ in technology instead: 77 in is an OLED size and 75 in is an LED and mini-LED size.
Is a 77-inch TV actually 77 inches?
Not exactly. LG sells its 77-inch models as "77-inch class" with a 76.7 in viewable diagonal, which gives a 66.9 × 37.6 in picture. The 0.3 in shortfall is about 0.25 in in width.
How far should you sit from a 77-inch TV?
About 7.7 to 10.4 ft (2.3–3.2 m). The near figure gives a 40° field of view (THX), the far one 30° (SMPTE). 4K pixel structure stays invisible from about 4.7 ft (1.5 × the screen height).
