The 65 inches is the diagonal of the picture. On a 16:9 screen that diagonal works out to the width and height below. These figures are identical for every brand; only the frame around them changes.

So a 65-inch TV is about 57 in wide and 33 in tall as a finished object, and you can plan around 57.5 × 33.5 in to cover nearly every model. On the LG OLED, the 1.8 in figure is the deepest point, at the lower electronics housing; the panel above it is thinner. Figures come from manufacturer and retailer spec sheets and can differ by a few millimeters between regional versions, so confirm the exact model number before building a recess.
How much does a 65-inch TV weigh?
Without its stand, a 65-inch TV weighs between about 35 and 60 lb (16 and 27 kg). Budget LED and OLED models sit at the light end, near 36 lb. Some premium mini-LED sets weigh much more: 53.8 lb for the Hisense U8QG and 59.7 lb for the Sony Bravia 7. Mini-LED alone does not decide it, since the TCL QM7K weighs 39.6 lb.
The stand adds about 3 to 4 lb, and the packaging adds roughly 15 to 20 lb. The boxed Samsung DU7200 ships at about 52 lb and the LG C4 at about 57 lb. Two people should lift any 65-inch set out of its box; the panel flexes if one person carries it by the edges.
Stand footprint and TV stand size for a 65-inch TV
How the TV stands on furniture matters as much as its width. Current 65-inch models use one of three designs:
- Two feet near the ends: the TCL S5's feet are 44.6 in apart. The furniture must be wider than that gap, with a margin so the feet do not sit on the edge.
- Adjustable feet: the Sony Bravia 7's feet can go 47.9 in apart (standard) or 18.9 in apart (narrow), which lets the set sit on a smaller cabinet.
- Center pedestal: the LG C4 sits on a central base, so it needs less width but 9.1 in of depth.

A soundbar placed in front of a TV that sits low on short feet can block the bottom of the picture or the remote sensor. On the models above, the frame sits only about 1 to 3 in above the furniture on the stock stand, so compare that gap with the bar's height before you buy, or mount the TV on the wall.
Mounting a 65-inch TV on the wall
For a seated viewer, aim the center of the screen at about 42 in (107 cm) from the floor. With a set about 33 in tall, that places the bottom edge near 25.5 in (65 cm) and the top edge near 58.5 in (149 cm). If the seating is a high sofa or bar stools, raise the center to match eye height.
- VESA pattern: 300 × 200, 300 × 300, 400 × 300 or 400 × 400 mm on the models above. Universal mounts for 55 to 75-inch TVs usually cover all of them, but confirm both numbers before you buy.
- Weight rating: choose a mount rated comfortably above the TV's weight without stand; 80 lb or more covers every model listed. A full-motion arm carries the load far from the wall, so its fixings into studs or masonry matter more than its rated capacity.
- Wall space: the set covers about 57 × 33 in. Leave at least 2 in around it for cables and to reach the buttons on the back.
- Depth off the wall: a flat mount adds about 1 to 1.5 in, so a slim set ends up about 3 to 4.5 in from the wall. Tilting and full-motion mounts add more.

In practice, a 65-inch TV suits a seat 6.5 to 9 ft (2 to 2.7 m) away. Apparent size scales with distance: a 75-inch set seen from 9.8 ft looks the same size as a 65-inch seen from 8.5 ft, so a sofa 10 ft or more away is the point where 75 inches starts to make sense.
Getting a 65-inch TV home: box size
The retail box is far bigger than the TV's depth suggests. Published carton sizes for 2024 models are about 63 to 65.4 in long, 37.4 to 38.2 in tall and 7 to 8 in thick (160-166 × 95-97 × 18-20 cm).
- Sedans: the box will not go in a trunk, and at 37 to 38 in tall it will not pass through most sedan rear doors.
- SUVs and minivans: it often fits upright with the rear seats folded. Check that the cargo floor is at least 64 in long and the tailgate opening at least 38 in tall.
- Pickups: fits in most beds, but strap it upright and protect it from rain.
Keep the box upright, as the printed arrows show. Laying a large panel flat in a moving vehicle lets it flex, and many manuals warn against transporting the set lying flat.
