60-Inch TV Dimensions: Height, Width and Weight
Sixty inches was a common size in the plasma and early LED era, and many homes still have furniture and wall mounts sized for it. This page covers the exact measurements, the newer and older models, and how a replacement will compare.
A 60-inch TV screen is 52.3 in wide and 29.4 in tall (132.8 × 74.7 cm). Recent LED models measure 53.3 to 53.5 in wide and 30.7 to 31.0 in tall (135 to 136 × 78 to 79 cm) without the stand and weigh 32 to 38 lb (14.5 to 17 kg). Older 60-inch plasmas are larger and far heavier, about 54.6 × 32.4 in and 76 lb (34.5 kg).

60-inch TV dimensions chart
| Measurement | Inches | Feet | Centimeters |
|---|---|---|---|
| Width (length) | 52.3 in | 4 ft 4.3 in | 132.8 cm |
| Height | 29.4 in | 2 ft 5.4 in | 74.7 cm |
| Diagonal | 60 in | 5 ft | 152.4 cm |
| Screen area | 1,538 sq in | 10.7 sq ft | 0.99 m² |
Unlike most other sizes, where the panel is slightly under the class number, Samsung lists its 60-inch DU7200 at 60.1 in diagonal, which makes the picture 52.4 × 29.5 in. The screen area is almost exactly one square meter.
Outside dimensions of 60-inch TVs, new and old
Because 60 inches has nearly disappeared from new ranges, the TV you are measuring, replacing or matching may be several years old. Older sets are slightly larger and much heavier:
| Model (year) | Type | W × H × D (in) | W × H × D (cm) | Weight | VESA (mm) |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Samsung DU7200 (2024) | 4K LED | 53.3 × 30.7 × 2.4 | 135.5 × 77.9 × 6.0 | 32.8 lb (14.9 kg) | 400 × 300 |
| Hisense A6G (2021) | 4K LED | not confirmed | 32 lb (14.5 kg) | 200 × 300 | |
| Vizio V605-G3 | 4K LED | 53.5 × 31.0 × 2.9 | 135.9 × 78.7 × 7.4 | 37.5 lb (17.0 kg) | 400 × 200 |
| Vizio E601i-A3 | 1080p LED | 54.1 × 31.7 × 1.9 | 137.4 × 80.5 × 4.8 | 54.5 lb (24.7 kg) | see manual |
| LG 60PN6500 (2013) | 1080p plasma | 54.6 × 32.4 × 2.2 | 138.7 × 82.2 × 5.7 | 76.1 lb (34.5 kg) | see manual |
Recent LED models need a space of about 53.5 × 31 in; older plasma and early LED sets need up to 54.6 × 32.4 in. On its stand, the LG plasma stands 34.5 in tall and 13.5 in deep and weighs 83.1 lb (37.7 kg).
A mount that held a 76 lb plasma has more than enough capacity for a modern set of half the weight, but the hole pattern may not match. Check the VESA numbers on both, and buy an adapter plate if the new pattern is wider or narrower than the bracket arms.
Replacing a 60-inch TV: 58 vs 60 vs 65 inches
With few 60-inch models left, a replacement usually means 55, 58 or 65 inches. Here is what changes:
| Size | Screen W × H (in) | Screen W × H (cm) | Area vs 60 | Typical set width |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 55-inch | 47.9 × 27.0 | 121.8 × 68.5 | 84% | 48.1-48.6 in |
| 58-inch | 50.6 × 28.4 | 128.4 × 72.2 | 93% | about 51.5 in (estimate) |
| 60-inch | 52.3 × 29.4 | 132.8 × 74.7 | 100% | 53.3-54.6 in |
| 65-inch | 56.7 × 31.9 | 143.9 × 80.9 | 117% | 56.7-57.2 in |
| 70-inch | 61.0 × 34.3 | 155.0 × 87.2 | 136% | 61-62 in |
- A 65-inch replacement gives 17% more picture than a 60-inch screen. The set is 2.1 to 3.9 in wider than the 60-inch models above, which is usually fine on a wall but may not fit a recess or an entertainment-center opening built around the old TV.
- A 58-inch replacement fits anywhere the 60-inch did and keeps almost the same picture (7% smaller). The 58-inch class is offered in some budget ranges, such as Samsung's U8000F.
- A 55-inch replacement is the safe fit for a tight cabinet but loses 16% of the picture, which is noticeable from the same seat.
The TV size chart shows all sizes from 24 to 100 inches if you are considering a bigger jump.
Weight and wall mounting
Modern 60-inch LED sets weigh 32 to 38 lb, light enough for a standard mount rated for 55 to 75-inch TVs. Their hole patterns are wider than on smaller sets: 400 × 300 mm on the Samsung, 400 × 200 mm on the Vizio V605-G3, 200 × 300 mm on the Hisense A6G.
For a seated viewer, put the screen center about 42 in (107 cm) from the floor. With a 31 in tall LED set, that puts the bottom edge near 26.5 in (67 cm) and the top near 57.5 in (146 cm). With a 32.4 in tall plasma, the bottom edge sits about 26 in up.
Stand and furniture size
- Width: at least 54 in for a modern set and 55 in for an old plasma; 60 in or more if a soundbar sits beside the feet or you want a margin each side.
- Depth: 14 in covers the deep pedestal of an old plasma (13.5 in) as well as current feet. See TV stand sizes for standard units.
- Strength: a 60-inch plasma on its stand weighs over 80 lb, more than some flat-pack shelves are rated for. Check the furniture's load rating before reusing a light unit for an old set.
How far to sit from a 60-inch TV
| Guideline | Distance |
|---|---|
| Closest for 4K (1.5 × screen height) | 3.7 ft (1.12 m) |
| THX 40° | 6.0 ft (1.82 m) |
| SMPTE 30° | 8.1 ft (2.48 m) |
| Closest for 1080p (3 × screen height) | 7.4 ft (2.24 m) |
Many 60-inch sets still in use are 1080p plasmas or LCDs. For those, the 7.4 ft figure matters most: sit closer and the pixel grid becomes visible. A 4K set of the same size is sharp from as close as 3.7 ft.
Box size
The boxed Samsung 60-inch DU7200 measures about 59.5 × 35 × 6.8 in (151 × 89 × 17 cm) and weighs 47.4 lb (21.5 kg). It needs a minivan, a large SUV with the seats folded, or a pickup, carried upright. If you are moving an old plasma without its original box, keep it upright, pad the screen, and use two people: at 76 lb, it is too heavy and too fragile for one.
Frequently asked questions
What is the height and width of a 60-inch TV?
The screen is 52.3 in wide and 29.4 in tall. With the frame, recent LED sets are about 53.3 to 53.5 in wide and 30.7 to 31.0 in tall; a 2013 LG plasma is 54.6 × 32.4 in.
Are 60-inch TVs still made?
Few. Samsung's 60-inch DU7200 (2024) was among the last widely sold models, and retailers listed it as discontinued in early 2025. Most current lines jump from 55 to 65 inches, with 58 inches as the in-between size in some budget ranges.
How long is a 60-inch TV in feet?
The screen is 4.36 ft (4 ft 4.3 in) wide and 2.45 ft tall. A complete LED set is about 4 ft 5.5 in wide, and an older plasma about 4 ft 6.6 in.
Will a 65-inch TV fit where my 60-inch was?
Only if there are about 3 to 4 extra inches of width. Current 65-inch sets are 56.7 to 57.2 in wide, against 53.3 to 54.6 in for 60-inch models. Height grows by up to about 2 in. See 65-inch TV dimensions.
How far should I sit from a 60-inch TV?
About 6 to 8 ft (1.8 to 2.5 m): 6.0 ft for the THX 40° guideline and 8.1 ft for the SMPTE 30° guideline. For a 1080p set, keep at least 7.4 ft (2.24 m) so the pixel structure is not visible.
